Winter 2012 Second Session, 3/19/2012 – 5/24/2012
Mondays: Ceramics and Wheel Throwing
Held at the ASCA at 111 Elk Avenue in town
The Art Studio of The Center for the Arts (ASCA) has a fully equipped ceramics studio with wheels, slab roller, ceramicist’s tools, and kilns. Students will have the opportunity to learn both hand-building and wheel throwing. They will be guided through the process of taking their artwork from raw clay to greenware to bisqueware through to glazed and finished pieces.
WHO: K – 6th Grade Students
WHEN: 9 week class, 3/19 – 5/21 (no class on 4/9 over Spring Break)
TRAILHEAD MEMBER COST: $130 for the session. $18 to drop-in.
NON-MEMBER COST: $165 for the session. $21 to drop in.
ADDITIONAL FEE: $20 to cover the costs of kiln firings and glazes

Wednesdays: Advanced Art
Ages 9 & Up
This exciting program has been developed to take our older artists to the next level of learning in the visual arts. While an underlying focus will continue to be on developing basic visual arts skills, students have the opportunity in this class to make meaning and connect with their artwork. This session will begin with a focus on sewing, both by hand and on the machine. Please call or email us to learn more about this class.
WHEN: 9 week class, 3/22 – 5/24 (no class on 4/12 over Spring Break)
TRAILHEAD MEMBER COST: $140 for the session. $17 to drop-in.
NON-MEMBER COST: $175 for the session. $20 to drop in.

Thursdays: Jewelry Basics with Kelly Frimel
Join Kelly for an exciting class in jewelry basics. Learn about jewelry hand tools, mandrels, and anvils and how they are used. Students will learn how to size a ring and create their own. The class will cover making beads, bracelets, and necklaces all while learning a wide variety of techniques. Jewelry is not only for girls, as boys will love the hammer and metal aspects of this class!
Kelly Frimel is a metal smith whose work can be seen locally at Lavish and Pema Dewa in the Company Store. She is also the Operations and Creative Director of the Trailhead Children’s Museum.
Sample supplies we will be using: copper wire, 24 and 18 gauge, copper / brass sheet, letter stamps, beads, hand tools, needle nose, flat, round, flush cutter, Wooden ring mandrels, Anvils, Hammers, Clasps, Chain, Shrinky dinks, Jump rings, Fimo, Etching, Punch, Enamel, Kiln.
