SESSION 5: PRECIOUS METAL CLAY DESIGN WITH MARY TUCK

Precious metal clay, PMC, is a sculpting medium with the consistency of polymer clay that is comprised of very small particles of silver. The “clay” is shaped and then fired in a tabletop kiln. During the firing process, the binder in the PMC burns away, incredibly leaving a 99% pure silver piece. This is a unique art experience for both boys and girls, with the opportunity to create 99% pure silver pendants to wear themselves or give as personalized gifts. Mary will also lead students through the process of burnishing their pieces for shine or intentionally tarnishing them with liver of sulfure, which is capable of creating a rainbow of metallic colors on the surface of the silver from golds, greens, blues, and violets to pure black.*Due to the expensive nature of the medium, an additional $25 materials fee applies to this class.
