The Trailhead Children’s Museum has a new home and will be opening the doors to a new museum space at 501 Elk Avenue this June! Starting this summer, the Trailhead will welcome the community back into a re-imagined children’s museum where local and visiting families and children can connect, explore, create and play together.
Over the past year and a half, the Trailhead was working closely with the Center for the Arts to reopen the children’s museum in the old Center building. However, cost prohibitive repairs to that building have led the town and the Center to officially close that space to occupancy.
In light of that closure, the Trailhead connected with real estate group the Walter Group, who jumped at the opportunity to help provide a home for such an amazing community resource. 501 Elk Ave. will provide a place to call home as well as a launching point from which the Trailhead can grow and plan for the future.
As the Trailhead team starts work on the new museum space, we will pause monthly pop-up museums in order to focus energy and resources on re-opening the physical museum.
The Museum Floor is currently closed. We will share our official reopening timeline as soon as possible.
This reopening is made possible by partnerships with the Crested Butte Arts Festival, I.D. Sculpture, Mountain Colors, Crested Butte Oxygen, Eagle Windows and Doors, Crested Butte Center For the Arts Preferred Partners Program, Western Colorado University, The Town of Crested Butte, the Town of Mt. Crested Butte, and our Trailhead families and friends.
The new Trailhead Children’s Museum will feature our signature Art Bar, an indoor play and climbing structure, dramatic play, loose-parts play, and STEM exploration; among other rotating exhibits. The Trailhead will also include an art studio classroom, that will allow the Trailhead to enrich and expand our arts and play programming.
The Trailhead Children’s Museum is reopening, and we invite the Crested Butte community to join in on the fun! Pre-sale memberships are available now at a discounted rate, and will allow members access to museum admission, program discounts, and more.
As we rebuild the Trailhead, we will need volunteers with a variety of skills! If you can contribute with skills in construction or carpentry, exhibit creation and organization, or in working with children, please reach out! Email our Executive Director Sarah Broadwell at email@example.com to learn more about how you can be involved as a volunteer.
Do you have the capacity to donate financially or to donate materials? In order to build this community gathering place, the Trailhead will need your help! If the time is right for you and your family, please consider donating today.
